Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA)
|
How does it work? A CSA, or community-supported agriculture, is essentially a food network system that allows local citizens to be knowledgeable about the production of their food. The concept of a CSA is easy to grasp; interested applicants purchase a full-season share of the upcoming year’s harvest. These “members,” or “share holders,” are then entitled to their paid portion of the farm’s harvest—it becomes their own, personal share. Agriberry’s members then make weekly visits to their choice of one of our 7 designated pick-up locations in order to retrieve their share of the harvest. Shares consist of 6 units of produce depending on what is currently in season. The sizes of each unit vary among the different products, and include a pound, one half pint, one pint, one quart, one peck, or three to five fruits. These size differences depend on the yield, age of the planting, and harvest conditions; all of which depend on forces of nature. Shares will be boxed and ready at each pick-up locations, making it easy for members to retrieve their units. One CSA season runs for 20 weeks, starting in early May and ending in mid September. Specific start dates for each season are emailed to members as the first fruit of the season ripens.
Why should I join? The benefits of joining our CSA are clear. Members have the exclusive ability to:

What fruit and berries may be included in my share?
Strawberries, Sugar Snap Peas,
Asparagus, Blueberries, Cherries,
Raspberries: Reb, Purple, and Black,
Blackberries, Blueberries, Peaches, Apples
Peaches, Melons, Pears, Rhubarb, and Nectarines
The preceding list is not a comprehensive one; members are not guaranteed to receive all of the aforementioned produce. It is intended to give you an idea about what could be coming, based on ideal weather and harvest conditions. Periodic updates via email or the Agriberry Facebook page will be provided throughout the season describing current crop conditions. In order to offer members the best variety, some of the items in the shares are sourced from regional farmers whom we personally know and trust. If we trust them, you can too!
